Readers’ Responses
I said I’d be back to share my thoughts with you and I’m sorry it has taken so long. I blame the holidays, a terrible flu, and general busyness for my tardiness.
To you, my Readers, I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH for the many encouraging words regarding the book. (hint) I could use a few more reviews on Amazon.com or Westbowpress.com but I realize everyone is busy and it takes valuable time to do that. I am amazed at God’s great love in calling me to this task. I never realized the blessings I would receive and where God would take it. Without question, HE DESERVES ALL THE CREDIT.
Here is a sample of some of the responses:
“We are proud of you. I can only imagine the persistent effort and dedication it took to “birth” this book. Because it is intended to glorify our Jesus I’m sure there were attacks along the way from the evil one . . . We pray that this book will touch the hearts of many people and encourage them in their walk with the Lord.
Many said, “I couldn’t put it down.”
Some said, “I am reading it a second time.”
Several said, “I felt like I was at a movie.”
“It brought back many childhood memories.”
“My life was much like yours.”
“I loved your story and have passed it around for many others to read.”
“I want four more books for gifts to other people.”
“Each of our children will receive your book for Christmas.”
“I bought several specifically for people of the next generation.”
“Your story contained all my favorite things in biographies: Chuckles, tears, and spiritual depth . . .I love how you tied in teaching truths with the events of your life. I also knew many of the people you wrote about. My most favorite picture of all was you playing the harmonica.”
“I found out my husband’s aunt knows you from meetings in her church and I am sending her your book as a gift.”
“ An amazing book! I don’t think I have ever read a book like this.”
“Thank you for writing this book. You needed to write this book.”
“I have been reading your book and I love it. Your memories bring back sweet memories to me as well.”
“Your story about your mother going out of her way to help you after your accident made me cry. It brought back a similar memory of my sweet mother doing something special for me.”
“I felt like we were in your living room chatting together.”
“I enjoyed your book so much. My husband is reading it now.”
“Thank you for writing a great book. It is such a huge blessing. I will be sharing it with others.
Loved the pictures throughout.”
“I read your wonderful book and enjoyed it immensely. I love how you see God in your trials and triumphs throughout your life’s story and praise Him. Very inspiring.”
“How wonderful to see the Lord’s hand, seen and unseen, in your journey.”
“I was inspired and blessed by the book.”
“I read your book in a day and a half. What an appropriate title for your book.”
“Thank you for writing the book, Led by an Unseen Hand. Also, for being willing to be one of God’s missionaries, I enjoyed reading about your life. Your early years bring back many memories. The battery radio was a family time which always included popcorn.”
“Your story brought back very great memories. I love it that you included pictures of Filipino friends and your family. I felt as if they were my family too! Your children’s love for the Philippines and their childhood friends was a testimony of how loving and positive you brought them up especially on the mission field. I’m so blessed by that. God is good, isn’t He?”
“I just finished the book and it is a blessing. I have ordered two more books.”
“So many memories flooded my mind as I started to read the book. I read the last chapter a couple times as there were a lot of gems in there.
“Your life shared is going to continue accomplishing God’s purposes as well as your desires and prayers for the generations to come.”
There are many more responses and hopefully more will follow but there are also a few special incidents I would like to share:
As always God works behind the scenes in ways that we may never know. On two occasions two different women unknown by me, had been visiting in the home of their relatives who had my book just lying around on a table. Both read the story. One wrote a note of appreciation and the other shared how she enjoyed it as we shared a meal together.
A former pastor, now an editor who has a website for pastors seeking sermon illustrations was one of the first to read my book and used an incident from the book as an illustration.
Don Good, whose story and picture are in the book, calls frequently from the Philippines where he and his wife, Ruth, are now retired. He loved the humorous story of my little sister calling the police on our brother.
Several women told me they had purchased the books by Christiana Tsai which I recommended in my book. It’s so good to hear how God has blessed them in reading her stories in addition to mine.
It has been a special blessing to re-connect with four high school friends through the book. It’s been great to learn what has happened in their lives in these intervening years. God is so amazing. I am so thankful I followed the leading of His gentle hand.
Former pastor's wife, missionary, college professor. Mother of twin daughters and one son. Presently retired.
